LAMP LIGHTING AND GRADUATION CEREMONY AT FATIMA HOSPITAL GORAKHPUR
For the 7th batch students
of Fatima Institute of Medical Sciences, the 12th December 2015 will
go down their memories with an extra feather in its cap. Held in reverence to
Florence Nightingale or lady with the Lamp as she is more popularly known, this
ceremony initiates the students into the noble profession of nursing, where
adorned in their uniforms for the first time, these students hereafter will
study and practice in actual medical surroundings.
The programme began with the lighting
of the traditional lamp by the distinguished dignitaries Dr. R.P. S harma,
Principal B.R.D Medical College, Most Rev. Bp. Thomas Thuruthimattam, Fr. John
Provincial Superior CST, Fr. Sabu P.L Director Fatima Hospital, Sr. Vinaya
Principal FIMS and Sr. Aasha Administrator Fatima Hospital. Thereafter a prayer
dance was performed by the students of FIMS invoking Gods presence.
A motivational and inspiring welcome speech by
Fr. Sabu P.L Director Fatima Hospital ensued where he remind the students the
glorious past day’s performance of the FIMS. The college report for the year 2014-2015
of FIMS was presented by Sr. Vinaya Principal FIMS. Reminding the feelings of
December, the month of Christmas, the staff of Fatima Hospital sang a Christmas
Carol song.
The end of the Carol song brought forth
the eagerly awaited moment when all the first year students of FIMS lit the
auspicious lamp. The candles held in their hands aglow in the darkened room,
seemed to set ablaze in their hearts the spirit of dedication and love which
echoed out in the Nurses pledge they under took. This was followed by an inspirational
address by the chief guest Dr. R.P. Sharma Pricipal B.R.D Medical College who
drew everyone’s attention to the fact of dedication in nurses.
Thereafter a skit was performed by
the DMLT students of FIMS which was an entertainer as well as a thought
provoking one. Dr. Vinaya Sinha made a wonderful felicitation in which he
gathered all the past golden days of Fatima Hospital followed by the skit.
The moment of awarding graduation to
the DMLT and Optometry students took place after the felicitation. Prizes were conferred
to deserving students for their excellence in extracurricular activities. After
the prize distribution Most Rev. Bishop Thomas Thuruthimattom gave the words of
blessings.
And as the end of this memorable
event drew close, one realized that one had probably just witnessed one of the
most special moments in these students lives. And being able to do so, somehow
seemed to embrace all of us in this beautiful feeling of universal love and
brotherhood. It was as though these budding nurses had already begun to spread
the spirit of their wonderful profession.
